The price of sugar on the New York Stock Exchange reaches 26 cents per pound. Pepsi inventor Caleb Bradham gambles on the price going higher and buys large stocks of sugar. By the end of the year, sugar demand slows on the open market and the price drops to a catastrophic low of two cents per pound.
