The Pepsi Legacy
1961

Harvey C. Russell joins Pepsi-Cola, becoming the first African American named a vice president in a major U.S. corporation.

Pepsi further refines its target audience, recognizing the increasing importance of the younger, post-war generation with the theme "Now it's Pepsi, for those who think young." The new theme defines youth as a state of mind as much as a chronological age, maintaining the brand's appeal to all market segments.
