When Frank Ocean revealed to the world that his first love was another man, the singer did it by way of the Web.  That's why he's been named one of the winners of the 17th Annual Webby Awards, which celebrates achievements on the Internet.

Frank is being honored as Webby Person of the Year after "proving the power of the Web as a medium for cultural change" when he shared his story in a letter posted to Tumblr last July.  "By challenging stereotypes historically engrained in the hip-hop and R&B music communities, Ocean brought a conversation about discrimination to the national dialogue," reads a statement from the Webby folks.

They add that the launch of Frank's channel ORANGE mainstream debut, along with his statement, made for a "historic moment" in the music and social media worlds.

The Webbys will be presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences at a ceremony in New York City on May 21.
