On June 13, 1992, Kris Kross “Jump” was #1 on the Billboard Top 100
During the winter of 1992, hip-hop duo Kris Kross released their hit debut “Jump.” At the time, Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith were both under the age of fifteen. You might recognize them as the energetic teens who made wearing their clothing backwards a trend that actually took off. If you thought legwarmers were silly, that takes fads to a whole other level.
“Jump” achieved major success as the fastest selling single for fifteen years, staying on top of the Billboard charts for eight weeks. It also achieved international success by topping the charts in Switzerland and Australia. The track sold 2,079,000 copies that year, making it the third best-selling song in 1992. “Jump” is one of the most iconic songs to come out of the ‘90s and inspired many childhood artists such as Bow Wow and Romeo to achieve mainstream success at a young age.
