Summer is the best season to enjoy the great outdoors, but when the great outdoors becomes a little too hot, humid, and bug-filled, you’re going to want to stay in the great indoors. And since primetime television tends to drop off during the summer months, it’s the perfect time to catch up on those television series you’ve been meaning to binge on via Netflix, Hulu, or whatever your preferred streaming service is. So, once those summer months do hit, here are just a few series you may want to consider catching up on.

  • 1. The Walking Dead

In A Nutshell: Set in Atlanta, The Walking Dead follows a group of survivors as they attempt to make it through the zombie apocalypse. The show is also based on the comic series of the same name.

Why You Should Watch It: Your Sunday night Twitter timeline becomes way more bearable when you actually know why everyone hates The Governor and what Woodbury is. Twitter aside, The Walking Dead is arguably one of the most well-liked series on cable TV and with a combination of drama, suspense, and the occasional zombie scare, it’s easy to see why.
  • 2. Sons Of Anarchy

In A Nutshell: Sons Of Anarchy details the trials and tribulations of the California-based motorcycle club SAMCRO, specifically the club’s president Jackson "Jax" Teller.

Why You Should Watch It: You like your biker gang drama with a side of Shakespearean undertones and extra grit. Also, for those who happen to be fans of Atlanta rapper T.I., it’s been reported that he’ll make a cameo on the show this upcoming season.

  • 3. Scandal

In A Nutshell: Despite her crisis management skills, Scandal’s lead character Olivia Pope, finds herself in a scandal of her own thanks to an affair with the POTUS (President of the United States.)

Why You Should Watch It: If you’ve found yourself glued to Scandal creator Shondra Rhimes’ past series Grey’s Anatomy then you should have no problem knocking out this political drama in just a few weeks.

  • 4. Breaking Bad

In A Nutshell: High school teacher Walter White uses his chemistry expertise to both produce and distribute crystal meth in this Vince Gilligan-created drama.

Why You Should Watch It: If you have a penchant for wayward high school chemistry teachers and great drama then Breaking Bad has your name written all over it. And with the series set for its end this fall you may want to fire up Breaking Bad first in your queue.

  • 5. Boardwalk Empire

In A Nutshell: Set during the Prohibition era, Boardwalk Empire follows New Jersey politician Enoch "Nucky" Thompson who happens to have a heavy hand in the bootlegging business.

Why You Should Watch It: HBO reigns pretty supreme when it comes to drama and Boardwalk Empire certainly packs on the drama, suspense, Atlantic City extravagance, and much more.
