Ne-Yo is obsessed with Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'.
The US rapper loves to sing the catchy hit while driving his car and admitted even being subjected to ridicule by "the hardest group of gangsters" he had ever seen didn't ruin his enjoyment of the tune.
Tipping Carly to pick up the Best New Artist gong at the MTV Video Music Awards ahead of One Direction, he told BANG Showbiz: "If I was choosing it would be Carly Rae. 'Call Me Maybe' is my jam right now. I was in my car with that song blaring and the hardest group of gangsters pulled up beside me and I didn't care, I just sang louder."
Ne-Yo will attend the ceremony at the Los Angeles Staples Center tonight (06.09.12) but is happy to be a spectator rather than a performer.
He said: "I will be there. I'm not performing, I'm relaxing. I'm gonna take my seat and let all the other guys do all the hard work. I'm gonna possibly have a drink and just enjoy myself. I can't wait."
Ne-Yo recently sang some of Michael Jackson's hits including 'Smooth Criminal' 'The Way You Make Me Feel' at an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the deceased King of Pop's 'Bad' album but admitted he was disappointed with his performance.
He explained: "I was nervous to say the least. I actually said on stage; 'you don't sing Michael Jackson songs, you attempt Michael Jackson songs' and it was probably not my finest hour but I tried to do it for him.
"It's so difficult though, Michael was the best for a reason."
The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards will air on Friday (07.09.12) at 9pm on MTV UK, Sky 126 and Virgin 311.
