We’re less than a month away from this year’s MTV VMAs and the show is shaping up to be one for the ages. For the first time the show will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will also feature a new limited edition Moonman designed by Brooklyn artist, KAWS. If that wasn’t exciting enough, word broke yesterday that Kanye West will be taking the stage to perform “Black Skinhead.” While Yeezy is gearing up to entertain the crowd, all of the nominees wait to find out results in the best of company.
With no surprise, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis sit atop the nominees with 6 nods each and will go head-to-head in Video of the Year, Best Direction and Best Editing. Bruno Mars is close behind with four nominations including Best Male Video and Best Pop Video. Bunched together for three nods are Robin Thicke, Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Thirty Seconds To Mars.
The “Artist to Watch” category has some stiff competition this year featuring well known musicians including Canadian artist The Weeknd “Wicked Games” and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea “Work.” You know how it works, the winners are all chosen by YOU! Voting has started and will continue to be open until August 24 at 6 p.m. EST. Only voting for Artist to Watch will continue throughout the VMA’s live on August 25.
There are still tons of performers yet to be announced, but with the show happening in Brooklyn we’re hoping to see some of our favorite local artists take the stage. We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, check out the entire 2013 VMA nomination list at MTV and begin voting.
