The legendary Roots crew is commonly known for their jazzy, eclectic approach to hip-hop, riddled with live instruments and a major archive of musical inspiration across genres. Since the formation of the band in 1987 by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson in Philadelphia, The Roots have released 10 studio albums, two EPs, and two collaboration albums. They’ve got four Grammy awards under their belt and now sit on deck as the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Currently working on their eleventh studio entitled & Then You Shoot Your Cousin, The Roots are busy recording. Word is that the album will have a very different sound then their previous album, Undun. The Philly-based band is also working on a collaborative project with English artist Elvis Costello called Wise Up Ghost due out late 2013.

We caught up with The Roots founders Questlove and Black Thought to learn more about the two musicians behind arguably the greatest hip-hop band of all time. Normally for our This or That segment we have artists draw out their answers, but this time around we decided to switch it up and create a video interview so Quest and Black Thought can give you their answers straight.  Click play on the video above to learn a little bit about what they're into. Also, learn a little bit more about yourself by answering the questions for yourself. This, or that?
