A new study has confirmed what most of us already knew: Oreos aren't just super delicious, they're fucking addictive.

For the study, a research team at Connecticut College put hungry rats into a maze, one side leading to Oreos and the other side leading to rice cakes. They found that the rats consistently picked the Oreos over the rice cakes, because just like humans, the rats didn't get much pleasure out of eating rice cakes.

The researchers compared the results of that test with another, in which the rats were place into a maze and could chose whether they wanted an injection of saline or an injection of cocaine or morphine. The rats seemed to like the cookies just as much as they liked the hard drugs.

These findings suggest that high fat/sugar foods and drugs of abuse trigger brain addictive processes to the same degree and lend support to the hypothesis that maladaptive eating behaviors contributing to obesity can be compared to drug addiction.

Similar to humans, when eating Oreos, rats go for the creamy center first.
