If and when The X Factor returns next year, Demi Lovato won't be behind the judges' table. The singer confirmed after Wednesday night's live broadcast that she's not returning to the Fox show.

"I did some thinking and I feel like I started out as a musician, and that's why I was on the show, and...I have a lot of music this year, and I can't do it at the same time," Lovato told Access Hollywood.

Speaking backstage with a number of media outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, after Wednesday's show, Lovato said of X Factor, "It's been really great, but I'm so excited for 2014. I'm going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music -- touring and making a new album. Possibly releasing one."

Lovato has been on the show since 2012.

Backstage, executive producer and fellow judge Simon Cowell explained Demi's decision wasn't a surprise. "I always knew she wasn't coming back because she's touring, so I knew that."

Simon was quoted on Twitter by TV Guide as saying he's not sure even he'll be back as a judge. "I don't know yet."

The X Factor season finale airs Thursday.

Demi has a busy 2014 ahead: her first arena tour kicks off February 9 with opening acts Fifth Harmony, Little Mix and Cher Lloyd. "I'm pretty excited," she told Access Hollywood of the Neon Lights tour. "It'll be a show I've never put on before, it'll be pretty amazing."
