Ed Sheeran’s been busy. He just finished travelling the world with Taylor Swift supporting her RED Tour. He writes songs for one of the world’s most beloved boy bands, One Direction. He’s got a certified platinum debut album and is well into working on his sophomore project due out this year. Word is he’s been spending time in the studio with Rick Rubin, the producer responsible for major hits from artists like Jay Z, Aerosmith, Adele, Lady Gaga and Kanye West, to name a few. “I haven’t had a point in my career ever where I just sit down and write loads of songs.” That’s the life of a 22-year-old breakout artist.

As a nominee in the category, Sheeran is a part of the 56th GRAMMY’s Best New Artist Program, brought to you by Pepsi. His pop music is gentle and unassuming, with a simplicity and honesty that marks him as one of the great artists of the young generation.

“I’ve got to a very good place in my life,” He explains, “I’ve toured for two-and-a-half years and not done anything but work and now I get to enjoy, even if it’s just for a little bit of time.” The well-deserved rest comes for a young man with a work ethic that is nothing short of remarkable. His boyish charm and unabashed sincerity make it easy to root for his success. We were lucky enough to spend a day with Sheeran learning about the whirlwind of success he’s experiencing and how he likes to spend his down time.
