Few people making music right now can challenge the sheer beauty and strength of Sam Smith's voice. Today the incredibly talented singer and songwriter releases his debut album In The Lonely Hour. Written last winter, it serves as a diary for Smith to unload stories of unrequited love and being by himself into melancholic, but beautifully composed ballads. The album isn't all sad songs though, Smith knows how to make a catchy dance track with some of today's favorite DJs. He first got his start as a feature on Disclosure's "Latch," and later paired up with Naughty Boy for the smash hit, "La La La."
In celebration of his debut release, and his largest performance in the U.S. to date, we sat down with Smith at the 2014 Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival to talk about vacationing in Italy, going to summer camp with Dolly Parton and Beyoncé, and his plans to move to New York City.
