Watch This: Five Sequel Films Not To Miss in 2014
You know that saying, the third time’s the charm? Well sometimes it’s really about the second installment. After great films come great sequels. In the coming months you can expect Hollywood to supply you with a steady diet of blockbuster hits. Jam-packed as always, the 2014 film release is dominated by tentpole follow-ups to big crowd-pleasing hits of seasons past. From X-Men to Transformers, here are five of the hottest sequels on tap for what is shaping up to be an action-packed 2014 on the big screen.
1. Step Up All In
Release Date: August 8, 2014
The all-stars from the previous Step Up movies join forces in Las Vegas to compete in a dance battle that could define their dreams, their careers and their futures. The movie features Alyson Stoner, the incredible dancer and Disney star who has been featured in various Missy Elliot music videos, Phineas and Ferb, and Step Up 3D.
2. Transformers: Age of Extinction
Release Date: Out now!
Don’t call this Transformers 4! Director Michael Bay is back with this new installment of the venerable Transformers series. Unlike the others, Age of Extinction seems to be an attempt to somewhat reboot the series, with original star Shia LaBeouf sitting this one out, and superstar Mark Wahlberg taking his place. Of course, the real stars are the robots, and boasting a massive budget, this will no doubt be packed to the gills with eye-candy.
3. Paranormal Activity 5
Release Date: October 24, 2014
It has been five years since the mysterious disappearance of Katie and Hunter. Now, a new family has moved into suburbia and begins to experience strange events around their neighborhood, including appearances of a woman and her child. The majority of the plot is still unknown, but the trailer is scary enough to make fans excited about this mockumentary-style thriller.
4. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Release Date: July 11, 2014
Rise of the Planet of the Apes proved to be the sleeper sensation of the summer of 2011. After a long three-year wait, this sequel picks up where the original left off, with ape leader Caesar (a retuning Andy Serkis) leading his army of apes in their conquest of Earth. While original director Rupert Wyatt is not returning for the sequel, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) seems to be a more than adequate replacement. Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and the great Gary Oldman co-star as the remnants of human civilization.
5. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Release Date: Out now!
The sequel to both X-Men: First Class and X3 finds original franchise mastermind Bryan Singer back in the director’s chair. Based on the fan-favorite storyline from the comics, this epic installment sends Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to a crucial point in the X-Men’s history, where he comes face-to-face with a young Magneto (Michael Fassbender) Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and a reluctantly heroic Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).
