With her unique and powerful Barbadian voice, gender bending outfits, constantly changing hairstyles, and absolute iconic star attitude, it's no surprise that Rihanna received the AMA Icon Award, presented by her mother. From the early 2000s, Rihanna has dominated the R&B and Pop music scene with album after album, hit after hit, and always maintaining and essence that is wholesomely Rih. No one can embody both elegance and street appeal like Rihanna. She pulls it off, making the look completely her own. Lets take a look back on Miss Robyn Fenty's style transitions, transformations, and iconic musical moments through the past 10 years.
  • 1. Baby Rih

Rihanna first came on the scene in 2004 with Music Of The Sun and her hit we should all know and remember: “Pon de Replay.” Lets remember baby Rih, with luscious brown locks, rocking the early 2000’s belly top and baggy jeans.
  • 2. SOS Breakout

Rihanna started to come into herself with her second debut album, Girl Like Me, featuring hits like “SOS” (her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit) and “Unfaithful.” We cannot forget the green dress in her music video for “SOS,” channeling J-Lo in “Waiting for Tonight” from 1999 Rihanna starts rocking some front bangs and we see the first introduction of the attitude and edge that is to come from the Barbadian icon.
  • 3. Edgy Umbrella

In 2007, everything changed with Good Girl, Gone Bad. Riri chopped off her long locks and sported a short, A-line black bob. The album kicked off with one of Rih’s greatest hits, “Umbrella” featuring the iconic legend himself, Jay Z. This album marked a change in Rihanna’s style and presence. Between 2007 and 2008, Rihanna was nominated for seven awards, and took home six awards, including MTV VMAs, Grammys, Billboard awards and more.
  • 4. Fohawk Originator

In 2009 Rihanna dropped Rated R, with “Russian Roulette,” “Hard,” and “Don’t Stop the Music,” making the album go Platinum in 8 countries. Here, we see the real originator of the bleached fohawk’s (we see you Miley) style come full circle. From pitch black to bleached blonde, Rihanna undergoes transition, what a spectacle for her fans!
  • 5. Loud Red Hair

When Loud came out, Rihanna indulged her colorful side, literally. The artist sported a bright red choppy hairdo while touring for her fifth studio album. It was her third world tour, and Rih brought the head. With crazy costumes and theatrics, the Loud tour grossed over 90 million USD and performed for close to 2 million people. Her most memorable hit off the album, “What’s My Name?” featuring Drake shows a softer side of Riri and a major style transition.
  • 6. We Found Love...with Rihanna

Things got real with “We Found Love,” off her sixth studio album Talk That Talk released in 2011. The album featured one of the dopest videos to date, featuring model Dudley O’Shaughnessy and produced by Calvin Harris. The video paved the way for new, edgy, colorful and creative videos about the real meaning of the song. The video depicted what it’s like to find love, in a hopeless place, lose it, gain it back and all the mess in between. It's a divergence from the typical videos we’ve been used to, the artist singing and dancing on a platform. This depicted a certain realness, alluding to way more to come from Rih.
  • 7. We All Know Rihanna is Anything but Apologetic

In 2012, Rih dropped her seventh studio album at the grand age of 25. Miss Robyn was an active producer on the album, along with Chase & Status, David Guetta, The Game and many more. The album is known for its enchanting singles “Diamonds” and “Stay.” With “Stay,” we see a real, vulnerable side of Rihanna. The video is simplistic, emotional Rih pouring her heart out in a bathtub with Mikky Ekko. These days it seems like Rih’s style is changing daily. With the short then long locks, blonde then black, shaved sides and way more impossible to categorize styles, what’s next?. As long as you’re one of the 10 million following BadGal of Instagram, you can stay up to date with the iconic star’s trend setting looks.
