Athletes Who Should Start Their Own Clothing Lines
Thanks to widespread coverage on social media, fashion and sport worlds have collided and are growing exponentially. This style revolution changed traditional sports attire from sweatsuits to sharp tailored suits and high-end designer pieces. Pro basketball is the mecca of the sports style revolution making pre/post-game coverage a fashion show as ballers show off their latest style. But football, tennis, and soccer players don't fall far behind! Lately, you can find a lot of athletes not just dressing the part but immersing themselves in the fashion world entirely. Whether it be attending fashion shows, hanging with designers, or just making appearances at fashion weeks across the globe, athletes have evolved their sense of style. Including the likes of Victor Cruz, and Amar’e Stoudemire, here are the 10 Athletes Who Should Create Their Own Clothing Lines.
This is the man who single-handedly reintroduced printed shirts to the mainstream audience. Game after game, cameras were set on No. 0. Not only due to his impeccable basketball skills, but to see what get up he was rocking as he left the locker room. He easily transitioned himself from unstoppable point guard to trendsetter throughout his career by attending fashion shows and taking style risks. It’s safe to say that he’s ready for the next level, designing.
On or off the court, Amar’e scores points for sportsmanship, philanthropy, and style. The New York ball player is known to take daring and bold style risks in fashion and for the most part comes out looking fresh. Whether on the red carpet, hitting up fashion week events, or leaving a basketball game, Amar’e always puts in the time to be fashionable. We know what he can do with a basketball but we want to find out what he can do with a sketchbook and fabric in hand.
It will come as no surprise if the salsa-dancing wide receiver turned designer. Looking back at the past year, it’s clear Cruz’ style is versatile allowing him to mix it up with different departments from high fashion to streetwear. The man has flair, and the fashion world sees that. He’s taken home Most Stylish Athlete Award at the 2013 Style Awards during and befriended some “it” designers in the industry — including Ronnie Fieg (Kith), Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne (Public School NYC), and much more — that could very beneficial when it comes to him making his own line.
We all know Sharapova is a powerhouse on the tennis court, but did you know that she also designs tennis gear? She’s collaborated with some major names in athletic wear for collections of tennis outfits worn by amateurs and professional players alike. Outside of sports, she loves to wear looks from designers like Rick Owens, Tom Ford, and Isabel Marant. She’s achieved success as a sports apparel designer but we’d love to see her tackle high-end designer pieces someday.
Dwyane Wade is known for taking risks when it comes to his personal style. Whether it be an all orange get up or brightly colored pants, he finds a way to make it work. The most impressive attribute of his style is that it’s flexible. He can go from wearing a clean suit and tie to a sneakerhead/streetwear combo and make it his own. So without a doubt, a line by D. Wade could send shockwaves through the fashion world.
A long time has passed since one lanky, uncoordinated rookie Quarterback broke onto the scene. A few Super Bowl rings later and a marriage to one of the most beautiful women on the planet (Gisele Bundchen) Tom Brady is a regular heartthrob. You can catch Brady rocking his signature hipster thick-rimmed glasses around Boston or shutting down a red carpet in a glossy tux. We believe combining his love for hipster-esque accessories and custom fit suits we might have a brand on the horizon. Plus, with Gisele as face of the brand, it’s a sure winner.
On the court Tyson Chandler dominates. Off it, he’s perfected the runway-ready high-fashion look. Labels like Rick Owens and Public School are usually what you’ll see him in. He also likes to be in the fashion scene making regular appearances at fashion shows and stylish ceremonies like the Met Gala. It’s only a matter of time before the stylish seven-footer will take a stab at designing.
“King Henrik” is one of the best goalkeepers in the history of professional hockey. As he brings W’s to the concrete jungle, the city gives him something back in return. Living in NYC has given him the access to various cultural diversions that has broadened his fashion sense. Anywhere Lundqvist goes he’s sporting a fresh suit and tie bar fulfilling the word dapper, oh and don’t get us started on his hair, it’s in a league of its own. He does have a small clothing line called Crown Collection which is a collection of tees, hoodies, scarves, fitted jackets and hats. It’s a small glimpse of the potential King Henrik has in the fashion world and hopefully we’ll get to see more in the future.
Serena shook the tennis world when she wore a jean skirt and tall black socks in one of her matches. It gained so much popularity that her wax figure is even wearing it. Serena is a powerful woman who isn’t afraid to take fashion risks on or off the court. She’s in her own lane which comes out great for her. This why she’s on this list because we know she’ll deliver something unexpected, unique, and stylish.
