1. 3Ball MTY
Mexico’s beloved DJ collective 3Ball MTY shocked many when they were announced as performers at this year’s Coachella Music Fest. However, they’re a perfect fit when you check out the rest of the eclectic mix of young and emerging artists slated to play in the EDM-fueled Sahara tent this year. DIIV is a four-piece Brooklyn indie band made up of lead Zachary Cole Smith (former guitarist for Beach Fossils), guitarist, Andrew Bailey, bassist Devin Ruben Perez, and drummer Colby Hewitt (formerly of Smith Westerns). Their dreamy, laid back rock and roll is perfect for lounging on the green grass of Coachella’s festival grounds. 3. Deap Valley
This punk rock duo is sure to blaze the stage at Coachella with a sense of ownership. The LA-natives will play in their home state for the first time in months after wrapping up a European tour opening for Grammy-winning Mumford and Sons. They’re releasing their debut EP Get Deap! on April 9, just in time for a few rotations on your speakers before the festival. Enter their Instagram contest leading up to the EP release by posting a photo of any art creation (drawing, painting, photo, sculpture) you think exemplifies “getting deap” and use the hashtag #GetDeap.Watch the video for Deap Valley, “Lies,” to get in the “deap” spirit!
4. Earl Sweatshirt
Get your Supreme hats on. The signature look of OFWGKTA member, Earl Sweatshirt, is sure to be rampant amongst audience members of his Coachella set. Gearing up for the release of his second solo album, Doris, the LA rapper has been popping up on stages everywhere from Austin to Brooklyn. There’s no doubt that 25-year-old Claire Boucher, AKA Grimes, knows how to put on a show. 6. James Blake
English electronic producer, James Blake, fuses minimalism electronic beats with mainstream pop music. His down-tempo production serves as the foundation for his second set of skills as a soul singer. In anticipation of his second studio album, Overgrown, he’s given away a handful of tracks already. 7. Janelle Monae
You might recognize Janelle Monae’s voice from fun.’s #1 single, “We Are Young.” She’s an R&B singer, writer, composer, and record producer. With two studio albums, an EP, and more than a handful of singles under her belt, there’s no denying that this girl is a serious multi-talent. 8. Jessie Ware
Jessie Ware is the darling of the singer/songwriter world right now. Her booming voice, classic beauty and energy for creating new music slates her at the top of the indie pop game with no signs of backing down. 9. Kurt Vile
A critic’s favorite, Kurt Vile is known for some pretty out-there antics. If this gives you any picture, he just recently organized a Kurt Vile Parade in Philadelphia to promote his forthcoming album, Walkin On A Pretty Daze. 10. Purity Ring
Purity Ring burst onto the scene after recording an electronic song called “Ungirthed” while touring as members of the band Gobble Gobble. The Canadian duo is known for putting on eclectic live shows dressed in costumes member, Megan James custom designs and sews herself. Her partner, Corin Roddick built a tree-shaped instrument that controls both lights and sound during performances.
