The proliferation of electronic music all over the world can’t be ignored. It bleeds into every other genre and accounts for a massive fan base in every continent. But how to sort through the synths and hi-hats, the 808’s and reverb? Know your DJs. This new series, “The Ten Hottest DJs” takes you through the biggest names in trap, house, trance, and dubstep so you can keep your basslines straight.

Trance music originated in Germany in the 90’s. It’s the most emotive genre of electronic music, following a trajectory of euphoric highs and melancholic lows across buildups and repetitive melodies. In almost every trance album there’s a moment where the aural scope clears and the rhythm is stripped down. Then those beautiful high pitched vocals that sound like they're routed straight from heaven into your speakers resonate before the track hits a new high. It's all about letting the music give you guidance, almost like you're in a state of trance. Get it?

These are the DJs who have helped define and redefine the genre over the course of the last two decades. Check out Pepsi Pulse’s Ten Hottest Trance DJs Right Now.

  • 1. Armin van Buuren

He’s the biggest, he’s the best, and he’s not showing any signs of giving up his reigning title. Armin Van Buuren is the creator of the A State of Trance Radio Show and World Tour. Ranked #1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 List, van Buuren is the world’s benchmark for trance DJs around the world. He’s cosigned most of the artists on this list, and if they shape up to be as talented as we think they are, we’re sure that number will reach 100% in no time.
