Caffeine is a safe ingredient that has been enjoyed in foods and beverages for centuries. Caffeine is one of the most studied ingredients in the food supply. The American Medical Association, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and numerous regulatory agencies worldwide have found that consuming caffeine in moderate amounts is safe for all consumers. Moderate amounts are most often defined as the amount of caffeine that would be consumed daily in two 8-ounce cups of home-brewed coffee, two 20-ounce bottles of caffeinated soda, or a 16-ounce energy drink. Pregnant women, or people sensitive to caffeine, should follow the advice of their healthcare provider regarding caffeine intake.
