Directions
Step 1
Prepare the Onions
2 tablespoons butter, 2 small sweet onions (thinly sliced), 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 2 teaspoons thyme leaves, 1/4 cup white wine, salt and pepper
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the thinly sliced onions. Cook them, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the brown sugar and thyme leaves. Continue to cook for another 10 minutes until the onions are golden and caramelized.
Deglaze the pan with white wine, stirring to scrape up the browned bits. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set the caramelized onions aside to cool.
Step 2
Assemble the Pinwheels
2 tubes crescent dough, 8 ounces Swiss cheese (grated), 1/2 pound roast beef (shaved)
Roll out the crescent dough and pinch the seams together to create a large rectangle.
Evenly spread the caramelized onions across the dough, leaving a ½ inch border around the edges.
Layer the grated Swiss cheese and shaved roast beef on top of the onions.
Carefully roll up the dough from one long edge into a tight log. Slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels and arrange them flat on a lined baking sheet.
Step 3
Bake the Pinwheels
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the pinwheels for 14-18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed on top.
Remove the pinwheels from the oven and let them rest for 2 minutes before serving.
Step 4
Prepare the Au Jus
2 1/4 cups water (divided), 2 tablespoons beef bouillon base, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 2 teaspoons cornstarch, 2 tablespoons butter, salt and pepper
In a small saucepan, whisk together 2 cups of water, beef bouillon base, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining 1/4 cup of water. Slowly stir this slurry into the saucepan to thicken the au jus.
Add the butter, season with salt and pepper to taste, and let the sauce simmer for another 2 minutes.
Step 5
Serve
Arrange the baked pinwheels on a platter and serve them with a bowl of warm au jus for dipping. Pair these savory, cheesy French Dip Pinwheels with a chilled Pepsi Zero Sugar for the perfect bite! Ideal for parties, game nights, or indulgent snacking.
